Race nights are the most fun I've had at work, and the most money I've seen raised in three hours. They work brilliantly as charity fundraisers, terribly as first dates, and somewhere in between at pretty much everything else.

How it works

    You pick a date

    Venue of your choice — pub, church hall, function room, living room (at your own risk).

    I set up the kit

    Projector, screen, laptop, pretend bookie, fake money. Takes half an hour.

  3. 03

    Punters place silly bets

    Everyone gets a wad of fake money. They study the runners. They back the wrong horse. Loudly.

  4. 04

    Races run, winners celebrate

    Eight real, pre-recorded races with commentary. Winners collect. Losers plot comebacks.

    Everyone goes home winners

    You've raised the money, everyone's had a laugh, and nobody's lost the house.
